Propagation bed heating

Heating cable used in propagation bed heating

Propagation bed heating

The warming of plant propagation beds is done to generally improve growth rates; and to give commercial advantage to enable early release of flowering plants onto seasonal markets.

Heatec stock a large range of heating cable types and sizes, enabling us to make up cable to suit any size and application.

A typical installation would involve cables run at 100mm centres, producing approximately 150 W/sq.m.

The cable may be run in sand beneath the plants when grown on the ground, or bench-grown plants, either supported beneath the benches or in a sand bedding.

Although most of the propagation bed heating is sold in kit form, Heatec can provide pricing estimates for the complete installation. The kits are generally designed for permanent installation and should be connected by a licensed electrician.

All systems should be thermostat controlled, based on the bedding (rather than room) temperature.

The cable layout can be designed for either mains voltage or extra low voltage. All mains-voltage systems must incorporate an earthed screen and the installation must include a galvanised steel mesh overlay to prevent mechanical damage.

Heatec has also designed and installed circulated warm water systems. The source of heat could be a boiler, heat pump, or solar. Such installations are only viable for large commercial operations.
